What is sent, to whom, and when.

What is sent

Card Coach sends a request only when you ask a question, click a quick prompt, press Evaluate, or run Bulk Explain. A request contains:

  • The card's question and answer, and your message.
  • Earlier messages in the conversation about that note.
  • The deck name, note type and tags, unless you turn them off in Chat panel.
  • The card's images, only if Send card images is on.
  • Review statistics (lapses, ease, interval), only with the Why failing? prompt.

Nothing is sent while you just review, and nothing is sent about your other cards or decks.

Who receives it

  • With OpenRouter, Kimi or Custom, the request goes straight from Anki to that provider, under its own privacy terms.
  • With Card Coach AI, the request goes to the Card Coach service, which forwards it to the AI model and counts the quota used.

What stays on your computer

  • Chat history, cached answers and highlights are stored in the add-on's folder in your Anki profile.
  • API keys are stored by Anki in plain text in the add-on's meta.json, which is standard for Anki add-ons. Don't share that file.
  • For Card Coach AI, you sign in in your browser. Anki stores a connection token, never your password.
