Settings reference
Every page of the Card Coach settings, explained.
Open the settings from the Card Coach menu in Anki's top bar, or with Settings in the chat panel. Pages are listed in the sidebar of the settings window.
AI
Card Coach AI
Start the free trial or view the paid plans. Free opens Connection with Card Coach AI selected; paid plans open this website for checkout.
Connection
| Provider | Card Coach AI, Kimi, OpenRouter or Custom. |
| API key | Your key for the chosen provider. Not needed for Card Coach AI, which uses Connect to Card Coach AI instead. |
| Base URL | Leave on Provider default unless you use a custom OpenAI-compatible server. |
| Check connection | Sends a small test request and reports whether it worked. |
Model
| Chat model | Pick a suggestion, type any model ID, or open Browse for the live list. |
| Temperature | Lower is more focused, higher is more varied. 0.7 by default. |
| Maximum reply length | Token limit per answer. Raise it if long explanations get cut off. |
Answer style
| Response language | Auto answers in the card's language, or choose a fixed language. Custom language takes any language name. |
| Brief answer style | How short answers are when Brief answers is on: Standard, Short, Very short, One line. |
| System prompt | Optional extra instructions for every answer, for example "Always end with a short mnemonic." |
Quick prompts
Add, edit, delete and reorder (Move up, Move down) the prompts in the chat's + menu.
Study
Chat panel
| Default position | Inline (below card) or Side panel (dock). |
| Show on the question side | Lets you chat before revealing the answer. |
| Stream responses | Shows the answer word by word as it arrives. |
| Input placeholder | Hint text in the empty question box. |
| Deck name / Full deck path | Sends the deck so the AI matches your subject and level. |
| Note type / Note tags | Extra context sent with the card. |
| Default field for saved answers | The field suggested when you save an answer. AI Notes by default. |
| Browser | Show the Card Coach panel in the Card Browser. |
Images
Send card images, image support override, compression, size and quality. See Image cards.
Grading
Everything for Give Your Answer: strictness, timer, auto-grade, streaming, answer box behaviour and a separate grading model. See Give Your Answer.
More
Advanced
| Reuse answers | The answer cache. Asking the same question again returns the saved answer instantly. |
| Keep answers for | Days a saved answer stays valid. 7 by default; 0 turns reuse off. |
| Maximum saved answers | The oldest answers are removed beyond this. 500 by default. |
| Debug log | Writes a detailed log for bug reports. Leave it off normally. |
Experimental
Features still in testing, unlocked with a beta password. It currently holds Pop-up discussion, the selection menu.
